NEW PORT RICHEY - A flag ceremony at Pasco-Hernando Community College will help launch observances of Veterans Day.
The public is invited to the event at 4:30 p.m. Monday, the afternoon before Veterans Day, Tuesday, Nov. 11, a college spokeswoman, Courtney Boettcher, reports.
The PHCC Veterans Club will conduct the ceremony by the flagpole outside of building A at PHCC West Campus, 10230 Ridge Road.
Kelvin Faison, assistant professor of psychology, will be the guest speaker. The River Ridge High School Junior ROTC team will lower the flag.
On Tuesday, Veterans Day highlights will include a 9 a.m. ceremony for the disposal of tattered American flags at North Meadowlawn Funeral Home and Cemetery at 4244 Madison St. Marine Corp League 567 of Elfers will serve as the color guard. Call 727-849-9281.
Vietnam Veterans of America, Keith F. Perrelli Chapter 1003, will conduct a 6:30 p.m. candlelight vigil at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4412, 9734 Dick St., Hudson. Call 727-697-1602 for information.
