U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., and U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis, R-Palm Harbor, voted against the mega-billion-dollar financial bailout. They did so because there wasn't any accountability or provisions to prevent financial problems in the future. I compliment them on their responsible decisions.
Shortly after the bailout, it was announced that financially troubled insurance company AIG had a $400,000-plus "picnic" at a resort. Then there was a news report that Wall Street brokers will get bonuses.
In my view this is arrogance and greed in the face of a financial disaster. Controls should be established now.
Vote now against any U.S. senator or representative who voted for the bailout. If you have already voted let your representative and senators be aware that this kind of financial irresponsibility is not acceptable.
Our vote is our weapon. Use it.
