•Katie Robinson, commander of Veterans Village American Legion Post 343 and the American Legion Service Officer at the New Port Richey VA Outpatient Clinic, received a special award at the Annual Volunteers Award ceremony held by the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital. Robinson received the President's Call to Service Award for volunteering 4,369 hours to the clinic. She has visited the clinic once a week since it opened in 1985. Robinson also has four veterans in local nursing homes for which she tries to help with their veteran benefits.
•Joanne Grassi, was recently installed as president of the Calusa Business and Professional Women for 2008-09. Also installed were: Jutta Shaikh, treasurer; Alice Delgardo, recording secretary; and Wendy Norton Longman, corresponding secretary. Meetings of the Calusa BPW are open to the public, and are held 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m. the third Thursday of each month at the Ramada Inn, New Port Richey. Call 727-853-0754 for more information.
