NEW PORT RICHEY - Pasco County could soon face a double whammy: a natural gas transmission line on the heels of Progress Energy Florida's plans for more electricity transmission lines through the county.
Sam Steffey, the county's growth management administrator, told the County Commission this week that Florida Gas Transmission could file to add a bigger natural gas line through the area.
The Houston-based gas transport company might ask for another 50 feet of easement along county roads, Steffey reported. The slightly bigger pipeline could follow the route of Florida Gas Transmission's existing 30-inch gas line, he said.
Steffey has asked Florida Gas Transmission executives to hold an open house here for Pasco residents.
Steffey also intends to ask the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to set up a meeting here. FERC regulates the interstate transmission of electricity, natural gas and oil.
