NEW PORT RICHEY - New Port Richey resident Ron Rice recently announced his candidacy for the Florida House of Representatives District 46 against incumbent John Legg, R-Port Richey.
"It is time for voters to ask themselves a simple question: 'are we better off now than we were four years ago?' For a lot of people in Pasco County, the answer is 'no,' " Rice, a Democrat, said in a press release. "Folks have a feeling that rather than working to find solutions, the government has been contributing to the problems, and I certainly understand why.
"On the key issues facing the district, lawmakers have shown very little leadership and even less backbone. Residents deserve better, and that is why I am running," Rice added.
If elected, Rice wants to focus on Florida's tax system, developing an educational plan for a 21st-century economy and resolving the homeowners' insurance crisis.
Ron Rice is a field supervisor in the engineering/land survey department of the city of Clearwater and has worked for the city for over seven years. He is also an active member of the Communication Workers of America Local 3179.
Rice met his wife Becky at church in his hometown, Butler, Pa. They will celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary this year.
The Rices relocated to Pinellas County in 1996 and bought a home in Pasco County in 2003. They have two daughters, Julianne, 8, and Madalynn, 5 who are both students at Pasco County public schools.
