I love The Suncoast News because it does such a good job reporting local news with seemingly little to no bias. Last year, I remember, your having a vote of your readers on whether to keep or drop Charley Reese's op-ed page column.

Reese often writes an intelligent column. His June 14 article on the Second Amendment and John McCain's support for it, however, was disturbing. It is sad when anyone is so threatened by someone or something that they resort to blanket statements of violence.

Our society and its doctrines are not perfect. My father, whom I considered a great American, taught me the value of America is in our ideal for liberty and growth. I commend Barack Obama for daring to question our constitution and rights. It takes great courage especially in these times.

Reese made a reference to people having guns to protect themselves. That is a true and fair scenario. How he and others go from one's personnel protection to annihilating whole nations with bombs is terrifying.

Our country is changing whether we like it or not. Whether we handle it with honor or ignorance is our choice.
