NEW PORT RICHEY - NEW PORT RICHEY - HUDSON -- West Florida Young Guns were a hit with the Pasco County Commission this week.
The youth baseball team, which will compete in a national tournament next month, was saluted by commissioners.
Based in Hudson, the Young Guns recently won a state championship.
The team of players ages 6 to 8 earned a berth in the National Amateur Athletic Union Tournament at Disney's Wide World of Sports in Orlando July 13-20.
The players are Zachary Burroughs, Steven Clark, Jacob Hartman, Gunnar Hoglund, Chase Latchford, Jakob Mattos, Johnny Oliveira, Trevor Paxton, Caleb Perez-Rosa, Matthew Pinter, Michael Pinter, Sawyer Salvaggio and Justin Skelton.
The manager is Jim Mattos. Coaches are Wes Hartman, Darryl Latchford and Dan Salvaggio.
The Young Guns won all five games in the state tournament after going 21-4 during the season, spokeswoman Tami Paxton told county commissioners.
"This group of boys started a year ago with only the desire to play baseball," Paxton read from her notes.
In the state title game, the Young Guns prevailed 6-2 over the Tampa Pirates.
