I must respond to the opinions expressed in the "True American" letter to the editor. The writer states, "You look into the background of Barack Obama and all that emerges is hatred for America, white people and all we stand for."
Obama's biography belies this statement. After all, he is the son of a white, American mother, born in Kansas. If elected, he will be the first biracial President in our history. His father was a black African. After his father left the family, Obama was reared by his single mother and her parents. His grandfather fought for America in World War II. He credits his white family for instilling values and surrounding him with love, during his formative years.
Honest research is important in this election year, as we evaluate the candidates for President. Rumors proliferated by email and callers to talk radio do not constitute honest research. Obama is a Christian. He did not attend a Muslim religious school as a child. From first grade through Harvard, Obama had a classic American education. He expresses his gratefulness for his educational opportunities.
In choosing between Barack Obama and John McCain we must separate fact from unsubstantiated rumor.
