NEW PORT RICHEY - Tail wagging treats have come to downtown New Port Richey.
Doggie Cakes, a dog bakery and boutique, is the latest addition to the historic downtown district. It offers high-quality, homemade treats for dogs.
As animals have become an intricate part of families and the U.S. pet industry has grown to a whopping multimillion-dollar industry, Trina Messano and her husband, Jason Longo, opened a 600-square-foot "doggie" bakery near the corner of Main and Bank streets.
In the wake of reports of pet food contamination nationwide last year the couple felt the timing was right to create this unique bakery.
In a press release, Longo stated that they are thrilled to be a part of New Port Richey and Greater New Port Richey Main Street; and the welcoming local businesses, pets and owners have given them since their store opened.
Since 2007 Doggie Cakes has been perfecting its recipes and has had them taste-tested by many dogs.
Certain items are baked fresh every day from recipes the couple developed.
The bakery has a variety of items, flavors, and sizes, which are available for the gourmet pet.
"Many of the treats and cakes look good enough to eat," says Messano, "but the items that we bake and prepare on-site are only for lucky dogs and do not contain sugar, salt or preservatives." she said.
The treats baked by them contain 100 percent human-grade ingredients and include meat, poultry, cheese, peanut butter and fish.
The bakery also has items for dogs with allergies and includes options that are free of diary products, wheat, and corn and they have vegetarian items.
In addition, the bakery carries a full range of dog oriented items and gifts for animal lovers and cats too.
Also, they carry handmade toys by New Port Richey resident, Judy Benjamin.
They offer shipping, gift cards and gift wrapping upon request.
