Main Street will rock.

This Saturday, June 28, at the 11th annual Friendly KIA FEST Main Street Blast, celebrants of the Fourth of July can get a head start on the fireworks, pooches can woof it up in the Patriotic Pooch Parade and everyone can enjoy an evening of music under the summer sky.

The music begins at 5:45 p.m. on the entertainment stage at the corner of Grand Boulevard and Nebraska Avenue with 1960s' Groove, a high energy, five-member rock band from central Pasco County.

"They do the best of '60s rock 'n' roll," said Shannon Terlop, booking agent and wife of the band's rhythm guitarist Bill Turlop. The band features American, British and Canadian rock music from the '60s and a bit of the '70s.

At 7 p.m., the Nashville-based Eagles Tribute band 7 Bridges will take the stage. A 7 Bridges show spans the spectrum from the Eagles' greatest hits such as "Desperado" and "Take It Easy" to Eagles members Don Henley and Joe Walsh solo material.

At dark, what organizes call the only fireworks show in West Pasco will begin at Orange Lake.

After the fireworks, back on the entertainment stage, ZOSO, the Led Zeppelin tribute band, will perform. Members are said to closely resemble the original members physically and to bring the styles of the high pitched vocals of Robert Plant and the guitar riffs of Jimmy Page to their act.

Since its beginning, ZOSO has played more than 1,700 shows.

Other activities on tap include the Sunset Corvette & Classic Car Club Cruise-In on Grand Boulevard south of Missouri Avenue starting at 4 p.m.

At 4:30 p.m. Blast goes to the dogs with "Red, Woof and Blue," an event for pooches and their people, in Cavalaire Square. The square is one block east of Grand Boulevard between Nebraska and Missouri avenues. Pooch activities include a Patriotic Pooch Parade. For humans, there will be a hot dog eating contest, dog training demonstrations and dog and owner look-alike contest. Registration for the free parade and look-alike contests and the hot dog eating contest with a $5 fee is necessary and can be done at www.newportricheymainstreet.com>.

At 5:15 p.m. on the entertainment stage, young lades from age 16 will be by judged for their poise and beauty in the 7th annual Miss Firecracker contest. The winner will receive a gym membership, modeling portfolio by photographer Paula Showen and jewelry.

The event will also honor this country's armed forces and veterans. Volunteers from Operation Shoebox will collect comfort items for soldiers stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan. New Port Richey law firm Attridge, Lucas, Green, Magee and Magazine will have a booth explaining the mission of the Fisher House at James A. Haley Veterans Affairs Medical Center, in Tampa.

Fisher House provides free lodging to families of injured military service personnel while they recuperate at the V.A hospital. The booth will also feature give-aways and a chance to win an Xbox, a video game console.

The event will also sport a beer garden, food vendors, arts and crafts and children's games and exhibits.

"This is all about apple pie and ice cream," said Main Street Executive Director Judy DeBella Thomas of the event. "It's real Independence Day activities with an eye to our troops, eating hot dogs and watching fireworks."
