Phone Book Recycling Campaign Sets 5-Ton Goal

NEW PORT RICHEY - Organizers have set a goal to collect five tons of outdated telephone directories during the third annual recycling drive July 12-19.

The R.E.S.O.R.C.E. Recycling Club is teaming up with businesses and community groups to create 11 drop-off sites for the recycling campaign, according to Kimberly Brown, its vice president.

"Please hold your phone books until the phone book drive starts in July," Brown said in a press release. The directories otherwise might clog up landfills or incinerators.

All-week collection sites

Some sites will collect the outdated phone books the entire week of July 12-19. They include:

•Pampering Plumber at 10720 SR 54, Suite 101, in Trinity at the corner of Duck Slough Boulevard.

•Stop-n-Play, 10933 U.S. 19, Port Richey.

•Shady Hills Community Center, 15840 Green Glen Lane, Shady Hills during regular hours, from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

•Verizon Store at the Gulf View Square mall in Port Richey.

•CARES Elfers Senior Center, 4137 Barker St.

Some will offer discounts or bonuses for people who bring in old directories.

Saturdays-only sites

Other drop-off sites will collect discarded phone books on Saturdays only, both July 12 and July 19, in store parking lots from 9 to 11 a.m. The sites are:

•Home Depot in Holiday at U.S. 19 and Flora Avenue.

•Home Depot in New Port Richey at Little and Ridge roads.

•Home Depot in Port Richey at U.S. 19 and Fox Hollow Drive.

•Publix in Fairway Oaks shopping center at Hudson Avenue and Little Road.

•Publix in the Chelsea Place shopping center at Mitchell and Seven Springs boulevards.

•Publix in the River Ridge area at Decubellis and Ridge roads.
