Regarding your June 7 news article on the red light cameras at U.S. 19 and Ridge Road in Port Richey, although the Police Department claims "deterrence" is the primary purpose of the cameras, little warning is provided to motorists to back up that claim. This causes one to wonder if their main purpose is as a source of traffic fine revenue.
To enhance the deterrence factor, I have suggested in a letter to the Police Department posting larger warning signs to slow down motorists and utilizing the mammoth electronic warning sign hovering over U.S. 19 near the intersection, at present unused, to alert southbound motorists of the camera enforcement of red lights at Ridge Road.
