PORT RICHEY - More than 125 roller skaters will be in town to compete at the Southern Region Figure Skating Championships, which starts this weekend.
Spinnations Skating Center, 8345 Congress St., is hosting the artistic performances just as it did the speed regional championships in May.
The center has hosted both regional events for five years.
Starting Saturday, skaters will vie to secure a spot at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in July. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.
Following a ceremonial kickoff will be several Elite events, including the short programs for the Junior World Class and Senior World Class singles and pairs, as well as the International World Class solo compulsory dance.
Sunday and Monday, patrons will be admitted starting at 6:30 a.m., and competitions will run for most of the day. Age divisions range from Tiny Tots as young as 5 through older-than-55 skaters.
Admission is $5 per session. For details, go to www.soreg skate.com or call Angie Serini at (727) 207-4071.
