NEW PORT RICHEY -- Believing some youths had stolen his son's bicycle, Richard A. Olszewski threatened six teens with a baseball bat Sunday night and ended up behind bars, according to Sheriff's Office reports.
Olszewski, 38, 9315 Ottawa St., New Port Richey, remains in the county jail in Land O' Lakes today on six counts of aggravated assault, jail records show. Bail is $30,000 total.
The confrontation took place about 6:30 p.m. Sunday on Tipton Avenue at Loras Street, according to a deputy's incident report. That is in the Griffin Park area, southeast of Little Road and S.R. 52.
The group of minors, ages 12 to 19, were sitting at the corner when, they told deputies, Olszewski drove up in his car and got out of his vehicle carrying the bat. The victims said they feared Olszewski would try to hit them with the bat.
Olszewski, however, denied ever making threats to use the bat or swinging the bat at anyone, deputies say.
A deputy who arrived at the scene ordered Olszewski to drop the bat, which was placed into evidence, according to the report.
