David Chauncey was right in his op-ed page column that Norway exports oil and the people of Norway benefit.
Wouldn't it be nice if our oil companies did likewise? Instead, they ship oil from Alaska to other nations to manipulate the price. Talk about gouging, it costs less to produce diesel fuel than gasoline but diesel costs more at the pump. The users of diesel – farmers, truckers, the airlines – pass on the higher price and guess who pays?
As for offshore drilling, it has ruined beaches in California and Texas. Perhaps the Norwegians have better control over drilling.
Let's go the way of Norway. Have the government take over the oil companies and we all benefit. Then use the profit to wipe out Bush's debt.
