Salonika's Bait and Tackle, 727-849-6377: Anglers fishing the beach at Anclote Key have been bagging snook to oversize. Live shrimp and pinfish have been working well, though some have been taken on topwater plugs around sunrise. An angler fishing the mouth of Miller's Bayou on the Cotee River land a keeper cobia on a live pinfish.
Hart's One Stop, 727-938-5364: A few flounder have been taken by anglers fishing just south of the mouth of the Anclote River. Fish 12 to 15 inches have been taking shrimp and live greenbacks on the bottom around sandy holes. A good number of trout 15 to 18 inches have been taken at the pier at the north Anclote Park. Fish have been taking jigs and shrimp. Some reds 23 inches up to big breeders of 36 inches have been taken from the causeway at Howard Park. Fish have fallen for live shrimp and Berkley Gulp Strips on jigs.
Masters' Bait and Tackle, 727-945-7191: Anglers fishing the south side of the causeway at Howard Park have been taking some flounder to 16 inches. Fish have been taking live shrimp and small, live sardines. Both bridges at the part have been giving up some snook on the incoming tides. The outgoing tide has been a good time for the trout and some reds. Pompano to 14 inches have been biting at the north Anclote Park pier. Doc's Goofy Jigs tipped with shrimp have been working well. The bites have been running for a couple of hours before shutting down.
Tarpon Tom's Bait and Tackle, 727-938-2379: Anglers fishing the jetty at Pet Beach have been scoring pompano to 14 inches. Doc's Goofy Jigs tipped with shrimp have been good, as are Silly Willy Jigs. The bite is short and has been over by 9:30 a.m. The shallows along the shore south of Howard Park have been holding reds, including some bulls to 38 inches. Snook have been in the mangroves there, as well, with both species taking shrimp and live sardines.
Clearwater Bait and Tackle, 727-669-5455: Fishing has been a bit slow of late, with anglers either dodging the heat or the rain. Don from the shop was fishing near Pet Beach at Honeymoon Island when he hooked, landed and released a 36-inch snook on a live pinfish. He was fishing at sunrise. A number of snook have been taken on8 the beach at Honeymoon, most falling for live sardines, pinfish and 52M Mirr-O-Lure plugs. A number of very large fish have been reported.
Pier 60, 727-462-6466: Good numbers of mackerel 12 to 14 inches are being caught on shrimp and silver spoons. A few snook to 40 inches have been caught and released, with the night bite better. Live ladyfish have been the bait for the trophy fish. Trout have been running to 18 inches and biting best at night. The snapper fishing has been strong at night, as well, with plenty of fish to 13 inches being landed.
