Just what do people not get about Republicans voting for Republicans? When there is a primary election for a candidate, be it Democrat or Republican, that ballot is for that party and the listed candidates to be voted for by Republicans only or Democrats only, not voters from the opposite parties.
This law was put into affect to keep voters from the opposition party from voting for what they saw as a weaker of the two candidates – from the opposite party – and then if that happened, their candidate would win over the weaken candidate they helped to get elected.
The law does not disenfranchise anybody. Rather it protects the people's choice in their party from being attacked by voters of the opposition party. This is a good law, and it works for both parties, but you have to have enough brains to get it.
