NEW PORT RICHEY -- Pasco County intends to soup up its servers in order to redesign its county government Web site to offer more to residents.

The target date for the relaunch was yesterday, Tuesday, barring any last-minute glitches, according to spokespersons Eric Keaton and Amy Ellis.

The repackaged site will add a bit of glitz to a somewhat stale, dowdy design of the current home page, which is packed with small type.

Perhaps one of the few things to remain the same will be a predominantly green color scheme. The Web address will remain the same as well, http://www.pascocountyfl.net/.

Heather Grimes has been serving as the project manager to freshen up and expand upon the county Internet site.

The goal was to make it easier to navigate around the county's Web home. The Web 2.0 technology is intended to make the site more easier to use. The county has sought suggestions from the public to incorporate into the site.

Computer users will gain the ability to search for specific items on the county site, for instance, Ellis reports. An interactive Google maps feature will be added.

In addition, the database library of county documents and forms will become searchable. So will the county calendar of events and meetings.

The redesign will create separate portals for visitors, residents, businesses and employees.

Quick links will point people on how to apply for a government job, register to vote, submit a permit application, online payments of traffic tickets and online driver's license renewal.

"So many people out there are Internet savvy," Keaton commented recently. The county is doing its best to catch up with them. Then "we have a happy visitor."
