NEW PORT RICHEY -- A road map of Pasco priorities shows Main Street and Decubellis Road near River Ridge High School will top the list of 2009 construction projects, county commissioners learned recently.
For Main Street improvements, the county and city of New Port Richey will pitch in shares of Penny for Pasco sales tax revenue to pay for the project, costing an estimated $4,554,724.
The narrow street will be upgraded from Congress Street to Rowan Road, a section that runs past the New Port Richey Post Office.
In the meantime, the county hopes to fix a traffic bottleneck near River Ridge High School by improving a short stretch of Decubellis from Town Center Boulevard to Ridge Road.
"It is the major (traffic) backup problem" for the school district, according to Bipin Parikh, assistant county administrator for development services.
The county will pay the $2,317,178 price tag from its own funds, primarily from gasoline taxes and impact fees.
The other big ticket item will be East Road, which straddles Denton Avenue and County Line Road, north of Hudson. The two phases will cost a total of $3,580,617.
Smaller-scale projects include:
• Shoulders for Perrine Ranch Road, in the Holiday area, for $867,942.
• Intersection changes at Little Road and Hudson Avenue, in the Hudson area, for $301,453.
• A traffic signal at Little Road and St. Lawrence Drive, in the Seven Springs area, for $241,162.
• A traffic signal at Fox Hollow Drive and Morehead Lane, in the Port Richey area, for $180,872.
Prices don't include money for any land the county has to buy for rights of way.
