NEW PORT RICHEY -- Widening of Decubellis Road by 2009 might fix a traffic bottleneck near River Ridge High School, county commissioners learned today.
The project topped a priority list for West Pasco road upgrades next fiscal year. Commissioners got a road map on top priorities for the next five years at a special meeting today.
The Decubellis project would cost about $2.3 million for the improvements between Town Center and Ridge roads. The construction cost estimates don't include the money to buy land for rights of way.
Other 2009 highlights include improvements to Main Street between Congress Street and Rowan Road.
The county and city of New Port Richey would pitch in shares of Penny for Pasco sales tax revenue to pay for the Main Street upgrades. The construction bill is estimated at $4,554,724.
The intersection at Little Road and Hudson Avenue would get $301,453 worth of upgrades.
Traffic signals would go up at two intersections – Little Road at St. Lawrence Drive and Fox Hollow Drive at Morehead Lane.
By 2010, the widening of Ridge Road might begin a little bit east of Little Road to Moon Lake Road. The cost is estimated at $35.8 million.
That would pave the way for the long-delayed extension of Ridge Road to the Suncoast Parkway toll road by 2012. That project carries a price tag of about $32 million.
