NEW PORT RICHEY -- Students on summer vacation gave up some of their free time today to help paint over graffiti at abandoned buildings in the area.
The students took part of the Pasco Sheriff's Office GREAT group – Gang Resistance Education And Training.
School resource officers from the Sheriff's Office ferried numerous teen volunteers from county summer camps to four locations in the area, spokesman Kevin Doll explained.
Sgt. Kurt Pinto, Mike McKnight and other officers ushered the group to sites such as the former Service Merchandise store on U.S. 19 near Jasmine Boulevard. Another stop took them to a former service station on Little Road at St. Lawrence Drive.
Salvation Army officials helped with transportation for the volunteers. Target donated water and other refreshments. Lowe's store managers donated paint.
