Hart's One Stop, 727-938-5364: The flats between Anclote Key and the Anclote River have been holding good numbers of trout. Fish have been running 18 to 20 inches, with some shorts in the mix. Live sardines, shrimp and Gulp Strips on jigs have been good baits.
Clearwater Bait and Tackle, 727-669-5455: Anglers fishing early in the morning have been finding reds 22 to 24 inches, along with a few jumbos to 30 inches, around oyster bars and mangroves on the northwest end of the Courtney Campbell Causeway. Fish have been taking live pinfish, shrimp and Gulp Strips on jig heads. Trout fishin has been good off the west end of the causeway, between the small bridge and the mainland.
Dunedin Bait and Tackle, 727-736-3474: Dog Beach has been a good place to fish for whiting. Fish 10 to 14 inches are taking live or frozen shrimp on the bottom. Several anglers reported hauls of 20 fish or more. A few snook were caught in the trough just off the beach along the west side of Honeymoon Island, around the last bathhouse. Fish have taken live bait and 52M Mirr-O-Lures. The bite has been at daybreak.
Dunedin Fishing Center, 727-738-5628: Pat from the shop reports night fishing for snook he landed several fish from short to 39 inches fishing live pinfish and grunts on the back side of Caladesi Island. All fish were carefully released.
Pier 60, 727-462-6466: A good number of snook are being caught and released. Fish from small to 40 inches have been landed. Topwater plugs, shrimp, live pinfish and ladyfish have been providing anglers with some great catch-and-release action. Mangrove snapper have been plentiful, with fish 10 to 13 inches taking shrimp well. Some sheepshead to about 15 inches are being caught.
Redington Long Pier, 727-391-9398: A number of tarpon have been hooked by anglers fishing the end of the pier. Fish have ranged from 60 to 130 pounds. Eight to 10 hookups a day have not been unusual. Live threadfins and pinfish have been good baits. Sheepshead fishing has been good, with plenty of fish 12 to 15 inches caught. Some fair numbers of snapper have been landed, with most 10 to 13 inches. Cut threadfins and shrimp have been the best baits. Pompano have moved through at times, with anglers taking good numbers during the short runs. Fish 11 to 14 inches have been taking Doc's Goofy Jigs tipped with shrimp, though Silly Willy jigs also have been producing.
Tarpon Tom's, 727-862-2908: Anglers have been finding snook at Three Rooker Bar. Fish from short to oversized have been taking plugs at sunrise. Live pinfish and sardines also have been working well. All are being released until the season opens. An angler reported landing and releasing a tarpon of about 100 pounds at the southwest end of Honeymoon Island. The fish took a live threadfin shad. Snook have been along the beach at the northwest beach at Anclote Key. Live pinfish and sardines have been working on fish to 38 inches. Some have been taken on topwater plugs early in the morning.
