NEW PORT RICHEY – A Pasco Sheriff's Office spokesman has been honored by his professional peers.
Doug Tobin, Sheriff's Office public information officer, has received the Internal Crisis Award from the Florida Law Enforcement Public Information Officers Association.
Tobin was honored during the professional group's annual conference, held last week in St. Augustine.
Tobin was cited for his handling of local, state and national news media inquiries following the Dec. 19, 2007, incident during which a tornado struck the Pasco County Detention Center, north of Land O' Lakes.
Sheriff's Office correctional personnel had just evacuated inmates from a temporary housing unit at the jail complex off U.S. 14 when the tornado struck, causing extensive damage to the housing module and other buildings on the site but no serious injuries.
