TRINITY, Fla. - TRINITY, Fla. - Trinity Rotary will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a big splash during a dinner party on Saturday, Feb. 16.
"We're excited about it," Trinity Rotary President Carol Kinnard said. "We have a few surprises."
A program about the roots and evolution of the club will be beamed on a projection screen during the dinner before guests hit the dance floor.
"In Trinity, everything we do is for children," Kinnard remarked. "That's part of our mission statement."
Thanks to a grant and matching funds from Pasco Education Foundation, Trinity Rotary will bring Radio Disney programs to area schools to promote reading.
The first Radio Disney event will take place at Richey Elementary School on Friday, Feb. 22, with more appearances to follow at Seven Springs Elementary School and Hudson Elementary School.
Commercials will air promoting the education foundation and Trinity Rotary.
But for one night, on Feb. 16, Trinity Rotarians and guests can sit back, relax and reflect on the accomplishments of the service club.
The club actually was chartered in 1997 as part of District 6950, but members got so busy last year the celebration was delayed until next month.
Some 50 members continue to meet every Friday afternoon at 12:15 p.m. in the Heritage Springs Country Club, 11345 Robert Trent Jones Parkway.
Past presidents have included Sandy Barley, John Karel, Maryellen Adams, Laurel Robinson, Ann Addino, Rich Balkcom and Kenneth Martin.
Major events last year included the annual Black-Tie Dinner Auction, Art Auction and Al Arzu Memorial Golf Tournament.
The group formed its own foundation as well.
The Trinity club supported Make A Wish Foundation with a "horse for therapy" and sent a child and family to Disneyworld.
Members have hosted exchange groups from New Zealand.
Polio Plus Partners is another beneficiary of the local club, which strives toward the worldwide goal of eradicating the disease.
Friday afternoons often were spent with the Genesis Interact Club at the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen.
When a tsunami struck India and other Far East countries, Trinity Rotary members helped an orphanage recover.
An Art Auction benefited the Little Lighthouse for the Blind.
The club was a Jaguarific Award Sponsor at Seven Springs Middle School.
Time has been spent with PACE Center for Girls and a scholarship was presented.
By collecting "Operation Shoebox" items, troops in Iraq and Afghanistan were never forgotten.
Each Thanksgiving, the club gives 45 turkeys to families of Seven Springs Elementary School.
A $10,000 contribution was given to the Youth and Family Alternatives RAP House.
Support has been given to Junior Achievement of Pasco County and the Boys and Girls Club of Pasco.
The list goes on and on, and likely will grow much longer during the next decade.
