In regards to your Jan. 16 editorial on possible mandatory solid waste recycling in Pasco County, I believe it is the duty of the County Commission to make the tough choices that are needed for the county.
There are two parts of the decision-making process that should be taken into account.
The first is to whom should the county commissioners be listening? Is it the people who elected them to their positions and thought they would have them in mind during their decision-making process or the special-interest group that might care a little bit about the county that we live in and they use to make money?
Secondly, do the research; find out which is best for our current situation and the future of our county.
Once commissioners find out, they should clearly and effectively communicate it to the people they are in office to serve.
The decisions we are making now will be affecting our children and it is up to us to decide if it will be a positive or negative effect. The best choice is not always the cheapest, but we must be fiscally and socially responsible to our fellow people and our children.
