I am a little puzzled with the misinformation in Ernest Lane's letter to the editor "No Crisis," which downplayed the current economic situation. For one, there are more than a few people losing their homes. Just read the many pages of foreclosures in the legal ads published in the West Pasco Press.
In addition, there are more than a few people losing their jobs and there will be more lay-offs soon, such as at the Wellcraft boat plant in Manatee County.
Our elected leaders in Washington gave themselves a $4,000 a year raise but scream like a banshee about raising the minimum wage.
Retailers didn't do well during the holidays, and people are using credit cards to survive.
Houses do not sell as well as they once did, and "For Sale or Rent" signs are on every block. The cry from the people for affordable housing falls on deaf ears.
There are ways to stimulate the U.S. economy, but it may take time as there are no quick fixes to get America out of this mess. As long as greed runs the country things will never change and two groups of people will emerge: the working poor and the wealthy.
A problem does exist and if it is not taken seriously it will lead to a recession – or at worst a depression. People can make a difference when they go to the polls and toss out the bums.
