NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - Connie Podesta will return as the motivational speaker at the kickoff luncheon Monday for the annual Business Development Week organized by the West Pasco Chamber of Commerce.

"Life Would Be Easy If It Weren't For Other People Part II" will serve as Podesta's theme for the 11:30 a.m. luncheon at Spartan Manor, 6121 Massachusetts Ave.

Last year, Podesta, who is also an author, playwright, actress, comedienne and licensed counselor, mixed a huge dose of comedy to drive home her points about getting along with family members and fellow workers.

"How many would treat their customer like family?" Podesta asked the crowd of more than 300 people. Customers usually get better treatment, she joked.

Luncheon guests laughed heartily as she asked them to categorize themselves by personality traits represented by a square, triangle, circle or "squiggly lines."

Among the "squares" or organized people, she bet one man in her audience he had a Blackberry personal digital assistant device.

"It's like a gun," Podesta kidded the guest after he drew the Blackberry from its holster.

The Monday slate also includes a 3 p.m. workshop on computer tools and a 6 p.m. session on selling through the online auction site eBay. Both events are at the New Port Richey Public Library, 5939 Main St.

Tuesday events will take place at the Pasco Hernando Community College west campus, 10230 Ridge Road, New Port Richey.

A 9 a.m. workshop, "Is Your Employee Legal," will start the Tuesday schedule. A local attorney, Debora A. Diaz, will present the program.

Other highlights include the noon Tuesday luncheon "Successful Business Women of Tampa Bay."

On Wednesday, Jan. 30, a series of free workshops will be presented by SCORE, the Service Corps of Retired Executives, at Marchman Technical Center, 7825 Campus Drive, New Port Richey.

The Thursday, Jan. 31, slate launches with a Success Stories Breakfast at Seven Springs Country Club. Pasco County schools will wrap up the day with a community forum from 3 to 7 p.m. at Wesley Chapel High School.

BDW shifts to the north, to the San Antonio area, on Friday, Feb. 1, for a luncheon put on by the Pasco Economic Development Council.

Weeklong festivities will conclude on Saturday, Feb. 2, with a Business Expo from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Gulf View Square mall in Port Richey.

For a complete schedule, go online to the Chamber of Commerce Web site or call 727-842-7651.
