NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - A Glitz and Glamour Gala fundraiser this Wednesday will raise money for American Cancer Society while also supporting Julie Rogers' candidacy as honorary governor of West Pasco.
The event will take place from 6 - 9 p.m. on Jan. 23 at Timber Greens Country Club, 6333 Timber Greens Blvd., New Port Richey.
Each dollar raised in this the 11th annual honorary governor race put on by the West Pasco Chamber of Commerce equals one vote. The funds raised by the mock gubernatorial contest are evenly divided to support the chamber's building fund and the candidate's charity of choice.
Rogers, who is with Port Richey-based Progressive Air Systems, chose the American Cancer Society because of the large number of people the disease affects. A client was diagnosed with breast cancer. A friend's wife is going through treatment. And a coworker of her husband just passed away this year from cancer.
"It is a miserable disease that affects so many people and we need to find a cure for this," Rogers said in a press release.
The upscale gala will include music from a jazz trio, a ballroom demonstration by Dancingly Yours, dancing, premium hors d'oeuvres, an auction, prizes, cash bar and more.
Tickets cost $20 a person.
People can also spend $20 a chance to win a seven-day cruise for two aboard Carnival Cruises' Legend. The winning ticket will be drawn on Thursday, Jan. 31
