NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. Two bail bondsman involved in a confrontation last week at the Pasco Tax Collector's Office in which the man they were trying to apprehend brandished a pistol are facing criminal charges.
After conducting an investigation that included interviews of witnesses to the incident in the crowded government office on U.S. 19, police have filed charges against Donald Ray Lowman, 44, and his twin brother, David Lee Lowman, according to a Police Department statement issued Wednesday afternoon.
Donald Lowman was arrested by police detectives on one count of being a convicted felon acting as a bail bonds agent. David Lowman is facing one count of knowingly allowing a convicted felon to act as a bail bonds agent.
In the Jan. 8 incident the Lowmans were attempting to take John Edward Darlington into custody on an alleged bond violation. When the two bondsmen confronted Darlington inside the Tax Collector's Office, he pulled out a semiautomatic handgun and attempted to load it.
The Lowman brothers eventually subdued Darlington with the help of a man waiting to be served by one of the tax office clerks.
The Lowmans told police they did not realize Darlington would be armed.
Darlington was previously arrested by police on felony charges as a result of the incident at the tax office.
