NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - Calling all bands! The Pasco County Library System is inviting bands to sign up for Pasco's Original Battle of the Bands XI: Rockus Maximus, with online voting for the first time.

The event is scheduled for Friday, March 28, at Crews Lake Park in Shady Hills, according to library spokeswoman Linda Bragg.

Beginning at 6 p.m., the eight qualifying bands will have 25 minutes to perform, with at least two original songs in the set.

The bands must have a minimum of three people, reside mostly in Pasco County and the majority of the members must be under 20 years of age.

Any style of music is eligible. The bands will be judged on stage presence, vocals, songwriting and general musicianship.

The sign-up deadline is Saturday, Jan. 12. Go to the teen page on the library Web site, pascolibraries.org and click on Teen Page in the left-hand list to find a downloadable entry form. Or check out www.MySpace.com/pascolibraries to find all the details on how to enter.

The contest is adding something new this year, Bragg reports – an online video documentary that will allow the bands to compete for the honor of having the best online presence.

The library system will post eight weekly episodes on MySpace TV so people can watch the bands and vote for favorites each week.

A winner will be announced each week with a final champion at the end.
