An acclaimed musical comedy now playing promises to tickle the funny bone.
"The Full Monty," written by four-time Tony Award winner Terrence McNally with music by Tony Award nominee David Yazbek, is now at the Show Palace Dinner Theatre in Hudson.
The musical is the Americanized version of the 1997 Academy Award-winning British film of the same name. It concerns six unemployed steelworkers in Buffalo, N.Y. – standing in for the equally gritty Sheffield, England – who decide to earn cash through a male strip tease act featuring full nudity, the "full Monty."
The ensuing plot is the story of both friendship and facing down fears.
"It's a mixture of comedy and heart," said the production's director, Matthew McGee. "And a bit naughty, too."
Audiences will enjoy the musical's common touch about the lives of everyday people, he said.
The play features brief nudity and adult language.
Area actors Jerry Lukowski and Todd M. Eskin play the leads.
The Broadway musical opened in 2000 and ran for 770 performances.
It was nominated for numerous Tony Award categories, including best musical and best musical score.
The play runs through Sunday, Feb. 24.
"The Full Monty" is presented at 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday, and 3 p.m. Sundays, at the Show Palace, 16128 U.S. 19, Hudson. Doors open two hours before each show for dinner and cocktails.
Tickets are $44 for dinner and show, $32.95 show only. Prices do not include tax.
Call 727- 863-7949, or to reserve tickets. For more information, go to the Show Palace Web site.
