NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - Income tax return season has descended once again, but West Pasco volunteers will help fill out forms for free for low-income families.
Volunteers will help prepare federal income tax returns starting Jan. 28 in most locations and continuing through tax deadline day, which is April 15.
The annual Prosperity Campaign has helped Pasco families get millions of dollars in refunds in recent years that might otherwise have gone unclaimed.
The program is sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service, United Way of Pasco County and AARP Tax Aide.
The assistance is available for low- to middle-income taxpayers who are eligible for Earned Income Tax Credits and Child Credits.
Volunteers will need to view the Social Security cards for all taxpayers and dependents listed on the return and a copy of the prior year's tax return.
E-file is required if the return is eligible for electronic filing.
If married and filing a joint return, both spouses should come to the site if possible to authorize filing the return.
Government issued photo IDs will be required.
Appointments are required. Call 211 or 727-845-HELP to make an appointment and for information on days and hours.
Tax assistance will start first, on Jan. 28, at the United Way of Pasco County office, 8040 Washington Square, Port Richey. The Hudson CARES Senior Center, at 12417 Clock Tower Parkway, will open the same day.
The rest of the local sites will open Feb. 1. They are:
• Elfers CARES Senior Center, 3146 Barker Drive.
• Polish American Club, 4616 Darlington Road, Holiday.
