Dinner To Honor Departing Pasco Attorney

NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - A fifth-generation Pasco resident, retiring County Attorney Robert Sumner will be hailed for many years of service during the CARES Annual Benefit Dinner and Toast next month.

Tickets have gone on sale for the Thursday, Feb. 28, event at the Tampa Bay Golf and Country Club in San Antonio.

Area leaders will toast Sumner for his tenure as county attorney since October 1999. Sumner's last day on the job is Friday, Jan. 18.

A highlight of the dinner will be a historical video of the Sumner family in Pasco.

Robert Dennis Sumner can trace his roots in Pasco County back to the end of the Civil War, when the Sumner family first settled here.

He went to school in Dade City and graduated from Pasco High School in 1952. Later he received a bachelor's degree in accounting at Florida Southern College, in Lakeland, and a legal degree from the Stetson University College of Law, in Gulfport.

He is married to Marlene Storch Sumner and they have five children, 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Sumner built his law practice over several decades, specializing in banking financial law, real estate, land use, wills and guardianships.

Active in the community, he has served as a Rotary Club president and president of the Jaycees.

He coached Little League baseball teams, including one that went to the State finals.

He is a past president of the Pasco County Bar Association and is a member of the Florida Bar Association and the Florida Association of County Attorneys.

The proceeds from the Feb. 28 fundraising event will help support CARES senior enrichment centers and other specialized support services that do not receive any government funding.
