I must take issue with the "Teach Science" letter writer, John B. Mooney. If he doesn't take the Bible literally then what's the point?
Does he believe in the literalness of heaven or that Jesus literally rose from the dead? How does he choose which parts of the Bible he will believe and which to omit?
Does he base his belief in the Bible based on what men say is true (or truly believe), what science is currently claiming, or a newspaper? Does he know there are scientists who accept the Bible literally? Does he believe when the Bible says, "Let God be true and every man a liar?" Romans 3:4.
The Internet is full of information concerning Christian apologetics of Genesis. I would recommend anyone with an interest in real science to research this further. If there is a God then He is true and the explanation of science belongs to Him from beginning to end.
