NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - An author will appear at the NPR Library this Saturday.
Philip Levin, president of the Gulf Coast Writers Association in Gulfport, Miss., will be the guest speaker from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Jan. 5 at the New Port Richey Public Library, 5939 Main St.
Levin will discuss his suspense novel "The Inheritance" and his 30 years as an emergency medicine physician. Levin has lived in the Gulfport area of southern Pinellas County for the past five years.
During Hurricane Katrina, Levin was the on-duty emergency room physician coordinating care for a major trauma center on the Gulf Coast.
He's been a medical examiner in Virginia, the attending physician for the NASCAR races in Martinsville, Va. In addition he spent 15 years as coordinator for advanced cardiac life support in Virginia and Mississippi, and has been a medical missionary in Honduras and at a malaria clinic in Peru.
Levin is a world traveler and has spoken to audiences in China, South America, North Carolina, Virginia and Georgia. This will be his first Sunshine State appearance as a guest of the Florida Writers Association.
Refreshments will be served during Levin's appearance Saturday at the library. Admission is free.
