NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - A gala party recently celebrated the 50th anniversary of the New Port Richey-based U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 11-06.
Mayor Dan Tipton was among the guests, along with officers from the Coast Guard stations in St. Petersburg, Sand Key and Clearwater.
Mary Skidmore was honored for being the first woman member of the flotilla. She has served the group for 40 years.
Now 95, Skidmore continues as an active member of the flotilla.
The New Port Richey group has provided public education programs, water safety programs at elementary schools, vessel exams, water patrols, radio watches and other services.
