Bill Clark's response to John Mooney's letter to the editor on Dec. 29 clearly demonstrates why the defenders of creationism and intelligent design must be kept at bay in the field of public education.
Mr. Clark questions how a lower form of life can decide whether an "addition" is needed to improve its ability to exist. The average grade-school student probably could explain natural selection, not conscious selection, is at work.
Although Mr. Clark has every right to his beliefs, we can't sanction such thinking in our public schools and handicap the future of our children in the real world.
