NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - A "can-do" spirit will permeate Canstruction.
The newly created competition will see professionals build sculptures from canned foods as part of a drive to help feed the needy in Pasco County.
Architects and engineers will compete to build the colossal canned-goods sculptures and then let the public vote on which one they like best. Martha O'Brien, assistant chief executive officer of Volunteer Way, explained.
Proceeds from the contest will benefit Volunteer Way, a nonprofit food bank in New Port Richey.
People who donate money or canned goods to Volunteer Way will be eligible to vote for the Canstruction winner. The entries will be on display the week of March 24 at Gulf View Square, 9409 U.S. 19, Port Richey.
At the end of the event, all the canned goods used in creating the sculptures will be donated to the food bank.
The Volunteer Way gave away 6.5 million pounds of food last year alone, O'Brien said.
Participating firms so far are Atelier Architecture, Schenkel Shultz, SE Architecture and Gresham Smith & Partners.
For information call O'Brien at 727-815-0433 or send an e-mail.
