The scraps of colored cloth they sew together twice a month will travel around the world bringing warmth to those in need.
Members of the Ladies Guild/Lutheran Women's Missionary League of Hope Lutheran Church in Hudson will deliver the results of two years' work of making quilts and a year of putting together emergency health kits to a Lutheran World Relief truck in Tampa this month.
The parent organization will then send them around the world to people in need.
In 2006, World Relief sent more than 310,000 quilts around the world, according to quilting coordinator Carol Bussian.
The local group hopes to contribute 15 quilts to the package.
Health kits of basics for emergencies are made up of a hand towel, washcloth, bar of soap, toothbrush, comb, nail file and Band-Aids. All must be in original packaging.
What are the rewards for working on the project?
"Knowing it's going to bring comfort and warmth to needy people who have been dislocated by war and disaster," said Bussian.
She also mentioned the "fun fellowship we have as we create."
Members would appreciate contributions from the community for health kit items.
They could also use old cotton or cotton-polyester sheets in good condition and cotton batting for quilts.
All contributions should be delivered to the church by Sunday, Feb. 10.
The church is at 12321 Canton Ave. Hudson, north of S.R. 52 and two blocks east of Little Road.
Call the church at 727-863-6446 for more information.
