Fisherman's World, 727-942-8944: Anglers fishing 30 to 40 feet of water reported taking a limit of grouper to 24 inches. That depth is about right, considering the water temperature, and any good, rocky bottom may be holding fish now. They used live pinfish and frozen sardines. The angler did report that the ratio of keepers to throw-backs was 10 to one. Anglers fishing St. Joseph Sound, in Dunedin, have been finding trout 14 to 22 inches. Fish have been taking live shrimp and sardines well, along with jigs. A lot of the action has been around the spoil islands that run along the channel north and south. A boat fishing off Hudson at the Veteran's Reef caught eight keeper grouper to 25 inches. The fish took live pinfish and frozen Boston mackerel. The U.S. 19 bridge on the Anclote River, at Tarpon Springs, has been producing some snook to oversized. Fish have been taking live, jumbo shrimp and plugs.

One Stop Bait and Tackle, 727-842-5610: In the Holiday area, the outfall canal at Progress Energy Florida's Anclote power plant has been producing trout to 24 inches. Fish have been taking shrimp, live sardines and jigs. Most of the action has been inside the discharge canal, near the barrel line. A few pompano have been taken in the canal, as well, with fish to 14 inches taking Silly Willy yellow and white banana jigs tipped with shrimp. A number of reds have been landed at the canal, with fish to 24 inches caught along the rocks near the barrel line. Fish have been taking live shrimp best, though some have been fooled with 3-inch Berkley Gulp strips on jig heads. Sheepshead have been another good bet at the outfall, with fish to 4 pounds taking shrimp, sand fleas and fiddler crabs.

Pier 60, 727-462-6466: Good numbers of silver trout are being landed, with fish 10 to 13 inches taking shrimp throughout the day. Some fish have been taken on Love's tandem-rigged jigs. Sheepshead have been running 12 to 15 inches and taking shrimp, fiddler crabs and sand fleas. The key is to fish around submerged rocks.

Redington Long Pier, 727-391-9398: Anglers have been landing trout to 18 inches, along with a lot of silver trout. Fish have been taking shrimp well, along with Love's tandem-rigged jigs. The sheepshead fishing has been fair, with fish to 14 inches common. Fiddler crabs and shrimp have been the best baits.

Denny B's Bait and Tackle, 813-885-9811: Many local anglers have been heading to the top of Tampa Bay, where fish are heading as water temperatures fall. Double Branch Creek has been a good snook spot, particularly at night. Fishing lighted docks, anglers have been landing fish to oversized on live jumbo shrimp, D.O.A. shrimp and live creek chubs. Nearby Rocky Creek has been another good snook location. Fish to 38 inches have been reported, caught and released on live shrimp or creek chubs. The night bite around lighted docks has been best. Some reds to 25 inches are being taken there, as well.
