NEW PORT RICHEY - Ridgewood forward Lukas Poderis slammed and jammed the Rams to a 74-56 victory Monday night against Palm Harbor University by dominating the paint and scoring a game-high 29 points.
It was both teams' opening-round game of the 20th Annual William G. Hutton, Jr. Ram Classic, hosted by Ridgewood.
The Rams controlled the defensive and offensive glass throughout the contest and benefited far more often from second and third chance shots.
PHU managed to keep the game within single digits midway through the second quarter, but a 16-3 Rams run to end the half quickly increased that deficit to 22 points, 43-21.
Ridgewood's Bryan Jones (12 points) and Alvin Satram (11 points) also scored in double figures.
Tyler Stevenson, the Hurricanes' leading offensive weapon, put up 19 points while hitting a wide array of shots all over the court. Point guard Mike McNeely added 10 points and Griffen Ferm scored 13, but the Rams proved to be too aggressive.
Second-round games will be played at the Ridgewood gym throughout the day Tuesday and the championship, third-place, fifth-place and seventh-place games held on Wednesday.
