PORT RICHEY - Instead of being in an assisted living facility or nursing home, "My great desire is to stay in my home," says Anna Lovelady.
The wish of 97-year-old Lovelady and those of many others seniors have been granted through a CARES program, according to Caryl Melancon, public relations coordinator for Community Aging and Retirement Services.
A trained homemaker visits Lovelady at her Hudson-area home two hours a day, five times a week. The helper takes care of housekeeping and related chores.
"I couldn't be here if CARES didn't help me," Lovelady said. "I appreciate it very much."
A native Floridian, Lovelady is legally blind, hard of hearing and uses a walker to get around. Nevertheless, she still takes daily walks.
Lovelady is an alert, outgoing and friendly person, Melancon said. Lovelady enjoys talking with Bobbie Branderhorst, the CARES homemaker, who has become her friend, according to Melancon.
Lovelady also struck up a relationship with Betty Jane Stefan, the CARES service coordinator. The two frequently speaks on the telephone.
Robert Lovelady, who is visiting his mother for the holidays, lives in Michigan. He is grateful as well for the assistance CARES provides her.
"It's a godsend," he said.
