LAND O’ LAKES - Wiregrass Ranch took advantage of some cold Tarpon Springs fourth-quarter shooting Monday night and edged the Spongers 49-45.
Tarpon (3-6) led 43-39 heading into the final period, but managed only one more field goal in that eight minute span. The Bulls (4-5) grabbed the lead for good with 1:46 remaining when sophomore James Tringali knocked down a pair of free throws to make it 47-45.
Wiregrass Ranch guard Allen Thomas led all scorers with 18 points, including a half-court heave to beat the first-quarter buzzer. Teammate Josiah Jones added 12.
C.J. Bargman (16 points) and Brandon Hayes (11 points) directed Tarpon's scoring effort.
The game was held at Sunlake High as part of a holiday shootout. Sunlake and Countryside High are also taking part.
