NEW PORT RICHEY - Wednesday night's game was business as usual for the River Ridge Royal Knights, who stayed unbeaten by running past their Class 5A-District 7 foes from Ridgewood High, 6-1.
The Knights opened up the scoring midway through the first half when sophomore Jenny Karl poked in a rebound after Ridgewood goalkeeper Brittany Martin was able to stuff a hard, close-range shot by Mikaela Morolla.
River Ridge (10-0-0) outshot the Rams (3-8-0) by a staggering margin Wednesday, 28-5.
Under heavy fire all night long, Martin handled herself very well in net and picked up 16 saves. The 28 total River Ridge shots just proved too many.
Sophomore Jessica Tata led the Knights in scoring, netting three goals. Morolla scored once and assisted on two goals. Corinna Dyl also scored for River Ridge.
The Rams' lone goal came courtesy of senior captain Ashley Brown in the 11th minute of the second half.
The Knights have now outscored their opponents this season 48-4.
River Ridge will next play rival Mitchell High Friday night at Mitchell.
Ridgewood travels to District 5A-7 opponent Central High next Monday night.
