NEW PORT RICHEY - The holidays can look bleak to residents who are having a tough time financially during an economic downturn. So the Pasco Sheriff's Office wants to spread some holiday cheer with up to 400 holiday food baskets.
Deputies and other Sheriff's Office employees are donating canned goods for the annual food drive, spokesman Kevin Doll reports in a press release. The public can help, too, by contributing food.
The goal is to provide a frozen turkey with all the trimmings to less fortunate families to enjoy a holiday meal, Doll explained.
People can drop off canned vegetables and fruits, instant mashed potatoes, stuffing and other nonperishable items. No bottled items are being accepted.
Collection boxes have been placed in the lobby of the Sheriff's Office administration office at the West Pasco Government Center, 7530 Little Road, as well as all other Sheriff's Office main facilities.
If benefactors prefer to donate money, checks can be made out to Pasco Sheriff's Charities, with a note on the memo line that the money is for the Holiday Food Drive.
The deadline for donations is Monday, Dec. 15. For information call the Citizens Support Services Office at 1-800-854-2862, ext. 3376.
Deputies will deliver the food baskets on Monday, Dec. 22.
