NEW PORT RICHEY - This Chris Stein might not be as well known - yet - as the guitarist of the same name who was a co-founder of the new wave rock band Blondie. But the 20-year-old New Port Richey singer and rising star hopes to change that in the near future.
Stein recently got an exclusive contract with Model Productions, which will send him to Miami in February, Stein's grandfather, Ed Holder, explained.
Only two such contracts are award in Florida each year, Holder emphasized.
The company searches for all kinds of talent among people of any age, Holder said. The firm has main offices in Miami, Atlanta and New York.
Last week Stein received notice he is being considered for the 2009 series of NBC's "America's Got Talent."
Stein already had won an online singing contest sponsored by "Entertainment Tonight." The Big Shot Live contest earned him a trip to Hollywood where he sang at the renowned Marks night spot.
Stein also is singing solo in the Pasco Christmas Memories show at Richey Suncoast Theatre in downtown New Port Richey. The show continues this weekend with performances Dec. 5, 6 and 7.
In other past accomplishments, Stein sang for former Gov. Jeb Bush and appeared on the "Daytime" TV show with Dave Nemeth and Cindy Edwards.
In addition, Stein has shared the stage many times with Stan Prinston and Tommy Russo for performances at the Gulf View Square mall during SASSY (Seniors Are Something Special Year-round) Days.
