Anclote Park To Launch Parking Pay Station

HOLIDAY - Come Tuesday boaters will need cash to use the boat launching ramp at Anclote River Park.
An automated pay station will begin operations there Sept. 2, according to Martin J. Paventi III, Area II county parks and recreation manager.
Because of a budget crunch, the county recently put into effect a minimum fee of $5 per day to use the facility at the river-front park at 1119 Baillies Bluff Road.
Boaters can feed coins or bills into the pay station machine for however much time they need, Paventi explained.
Boaters can use the pay station to purchase up to 7 days of boat ramp access, he said.
The pay station accepts currency, much like a soft drink or candy vending machine, but not credit or debit cards. It also does not give change.
The county would have to pay for additional telephone lines to allow electronic transactions at the pay station, Paventi said.
Once the correct amount is fed into it, the pay station then spits out a stub as a receipt. The visitor must display the stub on the dashboard of a tow vehicle visible through the front windshield, Paventi said.
Two large signs near the device explain the new procedures, Paventi said.
The county offers the option of a $50 annual pass, Paventi emphasized.
People have to go to Holiday Recreation Complex, 2830 gulf Trace Blvd., to get the annual passes.
The annual permit has to be displayed on the dashboard of a vehicle, too, whenever the vehicle is parked at Anclote River Park. Violators who don't buy a daily pass or annual permit, or don't display them properly, can face a $30 fine.
