NEW PORT RICHEY - Pasco County now falls along the far eastern edge of the projected track of Tropical Storm Gustav within 3 to 5 days, local emergency officials said moments ago.
The National Hurricane Center shifted the projected path of Gustav slightly east at its 2 p.m. update.
"It is important to note that there still remains significant uncertainty regarding Gustav's ultimate track," Paul Latham of Pasco County Emergency Management wrote in the 5 p.m. advisory.
Gustav is moving WNW at 3 mph with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph, but the storm is expected to gain strength, possibly becoming a hurricane in the gulf.
In the meantime, the National Hurricane Center is saying it is much too soon to know what impact the system might have on Florida's gulf coast.
The hurricane center in Miami is monitoring two other low-pressure systems, both of which have the potential to form into tropical storm systems.
Pasco officials urge residents to keep track of news updates and prepare plans. They expect the next update at 8 p.m. tonight, Wednesday.
