In response to Nell Maudlin's Aug. 2 letter criticizing Barack Obama not wanting his daughters "punished" by an unwanted pregnancy, does she know the feeling of having no recourse and having your future changed forever?

Does that sound like punishment? I bet it does.

Before Roe vs. Wade, in 1973, that's the way it was for numerous young women. Years ago women went to terrible extremes to have choice in the matter. Many were scorned, physically and emotionally. Many died.

Sen. Obama has the understanding and courage to say that all women, including his daughters, need to have choice in their lives.

I'm pro-life. I am for the lives of women. A life in which a woman can accomplish her goals and attain her dreams. The real crime is children who come into the world unwanted.
