One Stop Bait and Tackle, 727-842-5610: The area from Green Key Beach north to Brasher Park has been producing some nice reds. Anglers have been working the bars and mangroves, taking fish to 24 inches. Live shrimp, cut mullet on the bottom and Gulp Strips in new penny color on jigs are working. The back of Anclote Key, around Dutchman Key, has been a good place to score reds. Fish have been running to slot size and taking live pinfish and shrimp. Fish have been up in the mangroves when the tide is up.
Clearwater Bait and Tackle, 727-669-5455: Anglers fishing early in the morning have bee scoring some pompano to 14 inches fishing around the Clearwater Pass Bridge. Fish have been taking Doc's Goofy Jigs in yellow and white, tipped with shrimp. A few small permit are being caught, as well. Some limits of fish have been reported. The small bridge on the Clearwater end of the Courtney Campbell Causeway has been producing a few snook. Fish ranged up to 36 inches, and were taking live shrimp and pinfish free-lined in the morning and after dark.
Denny B's Bait & Tackle, 813-885-9811: Mobbly Bay, in Oldsmar, continues to hold some cobia. Fish have been on the flats around the old Higgins power plant area. Fish to 38 inches have been spotted or hooked. The often are following stingrays, which they do to eat the crustaceans revealed by the flapping wings of the rays.
Dunedin Bait and Tackle, 727-736-3474: Trout fishing remains strong on the grass bottom between Three Rooker Bar and Crystal Beach. Anglers are taking fish to 22 inches, with a good percentage of keeper fish in the mix right now. Live shrimp free-lined and under floats are working well, but many have been taken on 3-inch Berkley Gulp Strips on jig heads. Most catches have been early and late in the day, but most likely because of anglers fishing at those times to avoid the heat. Pet Beach, at Honeymoon Island, in Dunedin, has been another trout spot of note. Fish to 20 inches have been taking shrimp and jigs well.
Pier 60, 727-462-6466: Mackerel have been around in fair numbers, with anglers reported fish 15 to 18 inches taking shrimp, spoons and Gotcha Plugs. Live sardines under floats are taking a lot of the fish, as well. Jacks have been mixed in with the mackerel at times. Trout fishing has been good, with a lot of the fish landed being keeper size. Live sardines under floats have been tops. Night fishing has been stronger.
Redington Long Pier, 727-391-9398: Mackerel have been running 15 to 18 inches, taking spoons, live sardines and Gotcha Plugs. The bite has been off and on, with schools moving in, feeding and moving on. Early mornings have been producing trout to 20 inches. The bite seems to slow in the middle of the day, turning back on again at dark. Mangrove snapper fishing has been solid, with fish to 15 inches taking shrimp very well after dark and early in the morning. Several limits have been reported.
